Natalie Drawdy, PMHNP-BC, MSN

As a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Natalie's goal is to provide holistic mental health care to individuals across the lifespan. Holistic care recognizes that mental well-being is influenced by physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors. Natalie's treatment approach is collaborative with the individual and involves consideration of these factors in the development of an evidence-based plan of care which may incorporate traditional medication management, lifestyle modifications, and referral for complementary therapies.

Natalie completed her undergraduate nursing education at the University of Texas – Arlington and her graduate nursing education at the University of Virginia. Her background includes work in maternal/child health in addition to adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry. Natalie has experience working with patients who have acute and chronic mental health concerns with a broad range of diagnoses. Her special interests include working with women who are experiencing perinatal mood disorders and with children who have mood and neuro-developmental disorders. Aside from working with patients, Natalie has developed healthcare quality improvement initiatives surrounding women’s and children’s health, conducted research on postpartum depression screening in under-served populations, and taught clinical skills to undergraduate nursing students at the University of Virginia.

Natalie's current research focuses on the treatment of anxiety and depression in children who have chronic medical conditions, especially Type 1 diabetes (T1D). As a researcher, and the mother of a T1D child, Natalie is interested in exploring how supporting mental health can lead to better control of blood glucose.
